And there may be still others where there is some measure of

control, direct or indirect, e.g. Eastern Street Wharf (Hong

Kong) from which the attempt to run the opposition that was

frozen out by the one cent fare was made: and the Gilman Street

Wharf also said to have been frozen out of competition - now

used only for boats to lie alongside for hire at $20 a month.

Of all these wharves, only the Jubilee Street and

the Leung Wing (and Queen Victoria Street at night) on the Hong

Kong side, and Public Square Street and Hi Lung Li on the Yaumati

side, are used for ferry purposes; although it is admitted that

the public convenience would be served by an additional wharf

on the Họng Kong side and a re-arrangement of the wharves on

both sides.
